In consecutive interpretation, also known as consecutive translation, the interpreter sits next to the speaker, listens to the speech, which is segmented so that they can translate the respective segment immediately after the speaker, by means of note-taking. The speech may last several minutes, so it is essential to have a good command of the note-taking technique in order to reproduce the speaker's message properly.
AP | PORTUGAL is a consecutive translation company with a translation agency in Lisbon and another one in Porto. With over 20 years of experience, we specialise in consecutive interpretation. Simultaneous Interpretation and Translation or Consecutive Interpretation
Although consecutive interpretation has now largely been replaced by simultaneous interpretation/translation, the latter is still preferred in some circumstances (working lunches, highly technical meetings, training sessions, etc.).
Unlike simultaneous interpretation or translation, consecutive translation does not require the use of interpreting booths, but only soundproofing when the room is large or the number of listeners is high.
